THE INTERNAL PROBLEMS OF EUROPE
Moderator SEVER VOINESCU
Guests: MIHAI SEBE și GABRIEL GIURGIU
The subjects proposed by the first edition of the Symposium "History, Culture, and European Civilization in the Current Context. Europe - Challenges and Responses" reflect the challenges posed by the tension between sovereignist and federalist tendencies in Europe, and the discussions will revolve around the following questions:
• Is there a single possible European Union project (toward deeper integration, federalization) or is it also possible for a European Union project where member states retain their sovereignty?
• "Is Europe more solidary or more divided after Brexit?"
• For years, everyone has lamented the democracy deficit within the European Union - what is the current situation? Why does the European identity fail to prevail over national identity at the level of European Union citizens?
The political issues raised by Ukraine's and Moldova's entry into an accelerated European path, the economic challenges posed by the sanctions imposed on Russia, and also the ideological issues stemming from the confrontation between "sovereignists" and "federalists" constitute a complex and challenging political landscape, which the Symposium "History, Culture, and European Civilization in the Current Context. Europe - Challenges and Responses" aims to identify possible answers and reflections for.
